He has failed the citizens of Illinois on criminal justice, ethics, police reform, and health care. The facts below do not lie. Sen. Durbin has taken the people of Illinois for granted. He has put politics and partisanship ahead of people.
I will always put people first and take votes in the best interest of the people of Illinois. I will not seek to benefit financially from my office. Sen. Durbin’s Conflicts of Interest
Minority Whip Durbin has been in political office for 37 years straight. During his time in office his wife, family members, former staff members, and current staff members have benefited from his public office. Former President Obama has a political ad trying to convince the voters of Sen. Durbin’s integrity and ethics. I respect President Obama, but the facts demonstrate a pattern of questionable ethics by Sen. Durbin. As former President Lincoln said: “You can fool all the people some of the time. And some of the people all time. But you cannot fool all the people all the time.” Let’s examine the facts regarding Sen. Durbin’s ethics.Read more
Sen. Durbin has been in office for 37 years. During his time in office, we have seen a widening of racial health disparities, increasing costs for premiums, deductibles, and soaring prescription drug costs. African Americans are viewed as the least healthy ethnic group in America. Racial disparities have contributed to more African Americans and Latinos dying from preventable diseases. Health care costs are the leading cause of bankruptcy in America.
A lot is made of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) also known as Obamacare, passed in 2010. I agree with the goals of the ACA to reduce the number of uninsured, protect people with preexisting conditions, and reign in health care costs. The facts demonstrate that there are a lot of problems with the ACA that Sen. Durbin refuses to address. Too many Americans are worse off today under the current healthcare system that Sen. Durbin refuses to fix. The issue of health care is personal to me. I am a prostate cancer survivor. I will fight for the uninsured and people that lack access to health care. I believe that health care is a right and not a privilege to be enjoyed by a select few. Everyone deserves access to quality affordable healthcare. Let’s examine the facts.Read more
Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey an African American Democrat had this to say about the 1994 federal crime bill: “There are people right now in prison for life for drug offenses,” Booker said, “because you stood up and used that tough-on-crime phony rhetoric that got a lot of people elected but destroyed communities like mine.” (The Atlantic) The NAACP called the 1994 Crime Bill “a crime against the American people.” (The Atlantic)
Minority Whip Durbin the second most powerful Democrat championed the passage of the 1994 Crime Bill (Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act). Sen. Durbin’s vote for the 1994 Crime Bill destroyed families and communities. Policy and votes have consequences, the effects of the 1994 Crime Bill are still being felt today. An extraordinary percentage of African American men in the United States are legally barred from voting today because of a felony conviction. They are subject to legalized discrimination in employment, housing, education, and public benefits.

Minority Whip Durbin has served in Washington, DC for 37 consecutive years. Since 1983, Sen. Durbin has been in the House and Senate. Let’s examine Sen. Durbin’s record over 37 years. Are you better off today than you were 37 years ago? Sen. Durbin has failed to bring economic development to the South and West sides of Chicago and to East St. Louis, Illinois.
Sen. Durbin has destroyed families and lives because of his votes and policies. He has sought to enrich himself, family members, former staffers, and friends through his office. Sen. Durbin has failed to close racial disparities in health care and the criminal justice system. He has failed to stem the tide of corruption in Illinois and people leaving the state. This race is about Sen. Durbin’s failed record. He does not deserve another six years in Washington, DC.Read more
Senator Durbin’s Conflicts of Interest
It is well known about Minority Whip Durbin’s lobbying business and the millions his wife made while lobbying for Illinois clients. The Better Government Association recently published an investigation entitled: As Chicago Scrambled in Early Days of Coronavirus, Political Ties Helped Win No-Bid Contracts.” The Report details the actions of Senator Durbin’s Campaign Chief Greg Bales, lobbying on behalf of five companies to the City and State. Sen. Durbin’s 37 years in office has clouded his judgment. He sees nothing wrong with his campaign chief’s actions. He believes that conflicts of interest do not apply to him or his staff. Please read the report, it is shocking: https://www.bettergov.org/news/as-chicago-scrambled-in-early-days-of-coronavirus-political-ties-helped-win-no-bid-contracts/.Read more
Minority Whip Durbin a career politician that has served for 37 consecutive years in the House and Senate. Sen. Durbin is responsible for businesses and people leaving Illinois. His policies and failure to lead has led to Illinois being bankrupt. According to the Chicago Tribune “since the turn of the decade, Illinois has lost more residents than any other state, with a drop of about 159,700 people.” As the population shrinks, the potential tax base dries up. Unfortunately, many of Illinois’ costs, such as pension liabilities are fixed costs and will not likely shrink. Therefore, fewer people will have to carry the load of higher taxes primarily due to the mismanagement of resources. Also, the state of Illinois finances makes the state less desirable for new businesses.Read more

Did you know that career politician Minority Whip Dick Durbin has allowed partisanship to stand in the way of helping Illinois residents? Senator Durbin has been in office for 37 years straight and his legislative record reflects a long history of partisan votes and gamesmanship that hurts ordinary citizens and especially African Americans and Hispanics. He is more concerned with pleasing the Democrat Party than the people who sent him to Washington, D.C., 37 years ago. I will always put people over politics and powerful corporate lobbyists.Read more
Did you know that career politician Minority Whip Dick Durbin has remained silent while 66.5 percent of all bankruptcies are tied to medical issues? An estimated 530,000 families turn to bankruptcy each year because of medical issues and bills. African Americans and Latinos are hardest hit by bankruptcies. Interestingly, African Americans are overrepresented in bankruptcy because of attorney steering. When you follow the money, it shows Sen. Durbin has failed Black and Brown people of Illinois. According to Open Secrets since 2015, Sen. Durbin has received $1,278,953 from lawyers and law firms. It is no surprise that he writes laws to favor them and not the people of Illinois. After 37 years in Congress and the Senate, Sen. Durbin has done nothing to close the racial disparity gaps in health care or bankruptcy.

Did you know that career politician Minority Whip Dick Durbin has a dreadful record on supporting education in communities of color? It has been said that education is the great equalizer. Malcolm X said education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today. For 37 consecutive years, Sen. Durbin has been in the United States Congress. Ask yourself is the quality of our public education system getting better or worse. The facts on education in communities of color represents a colossal failure by Sen. Durbin. When former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel closed more than 50 schools primarily in Black and Brown communities Sen. Durbin was silent. Sen. Durbin has watched in silence as Black males drop out of schools at rates higher than anyone else. Sen. Durbin was silent as Black males were disproportionately suspended from schools and put on a pipeline to prison.
As the second most powerful Democrat, Senator Durbin could have done more to help communities of color achieve equity and justice. The social unrest that we witness today is a result of failed policies from Washington, DC, and State Capitols. The 1994 Crime Bill that Sen. Durbin voted for and championed exacerbated the school to prison pipeline. It begins with education and quite frankly Sen. Durbin failed the people of Illinois. Let’s examine the facts.Read more
